東京都では、令和７年３月に策定した「2050東京戦略」の中で、都民、区市町村、企業、大学などと連携してSDGsに向けて取り組み、国連の「SDGsの先」の目標づくりの議論などにも参画しながら、世界の発展と国際目標の達成にコミットしていくことを掲げています。

「2050東京戦略」に記載のSDGs関連施策の概要は、以下のとおりです。
SDGsの理念のもと、都民、区市町村、企業、大学など多様な主体が一丸となって、持続可能な未来に向けて取り組む社会を実現していきます。
SDGsとその先の国際目標の視点から、東京都の様々な政策をブラッシュアップし、持続可能な未来を創るための取組をさらに加速していきます。
東京都では令和５年度より、区市町村と連携しSDGsを主体的に学べる都民向けワークショップを開催しています。地域で既に親しまれているお祭りやイベントにブースを出展することにより、都民の機運醸成を推進しています。
令和５年度は４区市、令和６年度は９区市で実施しました。令和７年度以降も都内区市町村でワークショップを開催し、より多くの方にSDGsについて考えるきっかけを提供していきます。

東京都では、都内区市町村職員向けにSDGs研修を実施し、区市町村の取組を後押ししています。SDGsの基礎を学ぶ研修や都内自治体の先進的な取組を紹介するフォーラムを実施するなど研修内容を充実させるとともに、区市町村間のネットワーク強化を図っています。また、海外から講師を招き、海外の先進的SDGs事例の共有を内容とする研修や自発的自治体レビュー（VLR）の策定を体験するワークショップを開催しました。

令和５年７月13日、東京都は、SDGs実現に向けた取組の概要や考え方などを取りまとめた「Tokyo Sustainability Action 2023」を公表しました。本文書は、令和３年７月に東京都の「自発的自治体レビュー※」として作成した「Tokyo Sustainability Action」を改訂したもので、世界の大都市が共通して抱える課題の解決に資することが期待されます。

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) formulated the "Tokyo 2050 Strategy: Unlocking a Better Future" in March 2025, outlining Tokyo's commitment to working towards the SDGs in collaboration with residents, municipalities, businesses, universities, and other stakeholders. The strategy also emphasizes Tokyo's participation in discussions on creating goals "beyond the SDGs" aiming to contribute to global development and the achievement of international objectives.

The overview of SDGs-related initiatives included in the "Tokyo 2050 Strategy" is as follows:
Under the principles of the SDGs, we will create a society where various stakeholders, such as residents, municipalities, businesses, universities, and others, unite to work towards a sustainable future.
TMG will enhance various policies from the perspective of the SDGs and future international goals, and further accelerate efforts to create a sustainable future.
Since FY2023, TMG has been holding workshops for Tokyo residents to learn about the SDGs on their own initiative in cooperation with Tokyo municipalities.
By joining festivals and events that are already well-known in local communities, TMG is building momentum among Tokyo residents.
The workshops were held in four municipalities in FY 2023 and in nine different municipalities in FY 2024. We will continue to hold workshops and provide more people with opportunities to think about the SDGs.

TMG has been supporting initiatives of Tokyo municipalities by providing capacity building training programs for the SDGs. TMG has offered a variety of contents such as basic trainings and forums to introduce advanced initiatives of Tokyo municipalities, while strengthening networks among municipalities. In addition, TMG invited instructors from overseas to share advanced SDGs initiatives, and also held a workshop on formulation of Voluntary Local Review (VLR).

This is a platform for disseminating information on education and research related to Tokyo's sustainable development and the 17 SDGs, which are being undertaken by each of the universities participating in the Regular Roundtable Meetings with Universities.

Leveraging collaborations with various international stakeholders, TMG will participate in discussions on creating goals "beyond the SDGs" at the United Nations and commit to global development and the achievement of international goals.
In the lead-up to realizing the society aspired to by the SDGs, through efforts such as promoting Tokyo's proactive initiatives, TMG will work with major cities across Japan and the world to tackle challenges together.

On July 13th 2023, TMG unveiled "Tokyo Sustainability Action 2023" a summary of our efforts to realize the United Nation's SDGs. This booklet is positioned as a revised version of "Tokyo Sustainability Action" which was released in March of 2021 as a Voluntary Local Review (VLR)*. It is expected to contribute to solving issues commonly faced by large cities around the world.
*Voluntary Local Review (VLR): an international initiative in which local governments voluntarily review their measures and progress toward the achievement of the SDGs, and submit a public report on the results of the review to the United Nations.

On the same day, Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko delivered a video message highlighting "Tokyo Sustainability Action 2023" at the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspice of the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
